Description

The introduction alone, had me bracing myself. The quote Aliyah used to end the introduction, allured me to surrender my heart & mind- to accept her invitation, and embark on a soul searching journey. Just before Ramadan, Aliyah Umm Rayyan released a book called Ramadan Reflections: A guided journal. The book contains 30 chapters, one for each day of Ramadan. It is also divided into 3 sections; Part 1: Healing and taking lessons from the past, Part 2: Journeying to Allah with presence, and Part 3: Planning and moving into an akhirah-focused future. If you are a stranger to the title in the third chapter or are emotionally guarded she will challenge you to feel. Make sure you read Ramadan Reflections where you have few distractions. The Quranic ayahs, ahadith, and duas are beautiful and need to be savoured. Ramadan Reflections is pretty much a roadmap for our lives; the reason, the seasons, the battles, and Our Merciful Lord, Whom she proudly shows off by some of His Magnificent Names and Attributes and Whom I proudly love more. This book is a keeper. You can keep returning to it over and over, as you grow and develop and find new meanings to each chapter/topic previously read.

Ramadan goals: think about what is important that you achieve this Ramadan, reflect on the steps that will take you there in sha’Allah and record your progress. This is not just a read for Ramadan, but a resource you can turn to at any time in life and some particular times in life when you need that special reminder of your own goals and prayers that have been forgotten and waiting to be actioned. Ramadan Reflections will slow you down in this fast-paced world of ours and Aliyah does this through connecting to Allah (SWT) and being very real with what she reveals. Last but not least, I feel there is a place for everyone in this book simply because it’s a journey of the soul for Muslims, non-Muslims, for people of no faith – it will move you in some way and just connect with yourself. There is a glossary for those of us who are not familiar with each and every Arabic term. Thank you Aliyah for inviting me on this journey! Before you start journaling, take a moment to reflect and meditate on the chosen verse. Consider its meanings, context, and how it applies to your life. This step helps you internalize the wisdom and guidance present in the verse. Ramadan Reflections is filled with practical exercises, journaling prompts, and Du'aa invitations, all designed to enable deeper reflections on the learnings and further your ability to manifest this into actions. Each chapter concludes with extra writing space for contemplation both on the theme that day as well as their overall spiritual transformation. The Quran describes itself as a book of guidance for mankind 2:185. It sometimes offers detailed accounts of specific historical events, and it often emphasizes the moral significance of an event over its narrative sequence. [18] [19] Hadith are additional oral and written traditions supplementing the Quran; from careful authentication they are believed to describe words and actions of Muhammad, and in some traditions also those closest to him. [20] In most denominations of Islam, the Quran is used together with hadith to interpret sharia (Islamic) law; [20] in a small number of denominations, only the Quran is used as a source. During prayers, the Quran is recited only in Arabic. [21] Ramadan Reflections starts with an easy-to-read introduction in which she gives readers ideas on how to interact with the book and its journalling prompts this helped me a lot as I find it hard to write in books. The introduction had me tear up as it rekindled hope in my heart.

For each chapter (day) she gives us a story with beneficial knowledge via lessons, Qur'an, Sunnah, Islamic concepts, reminders, proverbs and quotes. These have been beautifully woven together in such a delicate and instructional way that blends fear and hope for ourselves as a means of connecting with our Creator. So, this is the first book I have been able to complete in a very long time. It broke boundaries of my short attention span due to the way it has been written – passionately yet succinctly. From the heart, to the point, yet leaving you wanting more. I feel absolutely honoured to have been an early-reader for Aliyah Umm Raiyaan’s Ramadan Reflections and this review comes very honestly, not just a recommendation. This is not just a read for Ramadan, but a resource you can turn to at any time in life and some particular times in life when you need that special reminder of your own goals and prayers that have been forgotten and waiting to be actioned. Well! This was a full scale lesson for me! I am not religious in any way shape or form – but when I did our b ible journaling post, I thought it only fair to include our awesome Muslim bothers and sisters. Why? Because journaling is an unbiased setting to do amazing self reflection. So I had to add Quran journaling to our amazing list of spreads! So! What is the Qaran? And specifically what is Qaran Journaling? Lets have a look at some Quran journaling spreads. Having had the experience of the second read through, I feel confident in saying that this will easily become the kind of book people will choose to dip in and out of many times and read over again, as there will always be some lesson or comfort to take from it. I’ll be honest, I was skeptical when I read the word “healing” because it seems to be overused so much these days and it’s not really my thing, but I actually took many positive lessons from that section such as accepting anything that’s happened in the past and being able to just move on. The next section was a reminder to be present with others and with Allah in mind. And the third section reminds the reader to live this life with the ultimate goal of Jannah in mind. It's well written and will speak to everyone in some way- each chapter has a theme and the writing style- part memoir, part advice- is really well balanced. It felt like having a conversation with a trusted friend. The introduction alone stirs the heart and soothes it. The words are comforting which is just as they should be when you settle down to read a good book. And Ramadan Reflections was definitely a good book!

Aliyah Umm Raiyaan | Author and Speaker

This book is an invaluable tool for finding a deeper spiritual connection to the holy month of Ramadan. It is split into 30 chapters, conveniently representing the 30 days of Ramadan, and it is suggested to read a paragraph a day and truly reflect on what is being said. Every chapter connected with me at a different level and allowed to me contemplate and gain a better understanding of myself and my journey. Incorporating Quran journaling into your bullet journal is a beautiful way to deepen your spiritual connection, reflect on sacred verses, and nurture personal growth. By combining the art of bullet journaling with the wisdom of the Quran, you can create a meaningful and introspective practice that aligns your faith with your creative expression. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to seamlessly integrate Quran journaling into your bullet journal: What is the Quran?Behaviour is the way our faith shows in action. So we want to raise our kids and ourselves to be a kind individual who benefits the society around us. It is really easy to read, I found it hard to restrict myself to one chapter a day but I wanted this book to follow me through Ramadan. It felt so personal, as if Aliyah was speaking to me.
