About this deal

The battery life is good, and I charged it once when I got it six weeks ago. But, as my editor pointed out, this is normal for new devices. However, I am still on one battery bar after six weeks. So even if I have to charge once per month, that’s pretty impressive. We have optimized the WiFi control of ROKU to solve the abnormal long-press without any response issue; If they're not in the lists, you can manually learning the remote functions to the system via the hub. So, it’s been a full year with the Sofabaton. I am sure you are curious if I still have my Harmony Elite in the loop. Well, I do, but not so much for me. My wife still prefers the Harmony remote. It’s not that she doesn’t understand or can’t “get” the swing of the Sofabaton. It’s more that she is accustomed to the Harmony and doesn’t see the need to go to another remote. If I disconnected the Harmony and all we had was the Sofabaton, she would be able to navigate it all. We has been involved in technology research and development for more than 10 years, and our Boss is well aware of the common flaws of universal remote control products currently on the market. Motivated by this,he created his own brand: Sofabaton and dedicated himself to exploring, developing, and improving this industry to create a better experience for users.

The hub was in screen sleep state after being used for a period of time, and the system is upgraded to automatically reset to be used; Unfortunately, Logitech Harmony, a reputable industry leader, has announced that it has abandoned the universal remote control business. Sofabaton, a group of hardcore fans of audio-visual products, decided to step forward as the new leaders of remote control devices and provide users better features, more convenience, and ultimate control for their components.

Sofabaton X1 Programmable Universal Remote Review

Sofabaton is still very committed to the remote. One year later, we are up to Rev.13 on the Hub firmware, Rev.9 on the remote, and Ver 3.3.1 of the mobile app. That’s a lot of updates in one year. And their codebase is getting pretty expansive. I added some older gear to it, and it had the codes for it. The Sofabaton app allows you to share your codebase for learned commands. So effectively, the community is contributing to the whole codebase. I haven’t had to learn any commands yet, but if I do, I will share them with the community.

The app is both simple and frustrating at the same time. Once set up, it’s simple to use the app instead of the remote. The frustration lies with the setup process. But, I am confident that future updates will fix some of these bugs. To date, there have already been three firmware updates. I expect many more. Using It Ok, so the remote is still not perfect. I still don’t have any support for Google Home, and Philips Hue support is still nada. But, Sofabaton has explained that they are actively working on the solution and hope to have a fix in the coming months. So if Sofabaton can get Google Home integration working, I would be willing to unplug my Harmony Hub and move to the Sofabaton X1 full-time! You heard me right. The Google Home integration is the last hurdle (for me) that Sofabaton needs to meet for me to be content with the remote as a whole. Other Considerations/Quirks Yes. I still have my Elite hooked up for my wife to use. But for the most part, I use the Sofabaton as my daily driver. It’s simple to use and I don’t need a lot of functionality. I do still use the Harmony Hub to control my lighting with my voice, but I use my Sofabaton for my actual gear. Both units are small, and don’t take up much space, so I don’t mind.Absent is a numeric pad to allow you to input channels or other functions that may need numbers. I have been a cord-cutter for at least four years now, so this doesn’t bother me. But, I could see this being a deal-breaker for someone who uses the number pad for TV channel input vs. the on-screen menus. Although you can select devices on the remote's LCD screen, you can't simply use the remote as a universal remote to control the TV or other device. Pressing the OFF button does not turn off the TV or the home theater system. Each device must be added to an activity. The deal-breaker with the X1 occurred after adding my first device (an Integra receiver using IR). The IR signal from both the SofaBaton hub and the IR blaster is just super, super weak. So weak, in fact, that I think I may have had a defective unit.
