About this deal

Nonetheless, aspects of the book such as the writing, especially the dialogue, come off as cheesy and mediocre. It's a very marketable jam and I'm jealous of the people who have a taste for it because they look like they're having fun when they read and squeal about these books with their friends. ANOTHER BOOK WHERE I definitely predicted most of the main twists but it didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment! Speaking of which, I think there’s going to be a romance between Mari and Griffin and I’d totally be on board of this ship.

But they could have spotted a few fleas BEFORE you released the book and helped strengthen your story. Arwen was such a contradiction on the one hand I loved how loyal she was to those she considered her own but I also thought she then made rash thoughtless decisions in the moment without much thought to the consequences and when it came to Kane she could also be quite prejudiced and very blinkered. She had such strength, but it wasn’t so excessive as to be unbelievable – no, everything about Arwen was so realistic. And THEN he was lying and wanted to kill her but actually, no he changed his mind, risked everything for her, and yet she still won’t forgive him for it. I was dying to know what was going on in Kane’s head, but at the same time, us not knowing allowed the author to give Kane a hidden agenda that wasn’t revealed until the end.I particularly enjoyed discovering the rich history of the fae and how their magic and world operated. I am going to explain why this book received two stars and start off by saying that it was extremely hard to get into this book after a certain point. This was a fantastic beginning to what looks to be a very engaging and well written fantasy romance. Plus, Arwen is a prisoner in the Onyx kingdom at first so it makes perfect sense that she wouldn’t be allowed to see a lot of it.

Somewhat a coming-of-age tale, but some things may be more suitable to adult readers, including child abuse and s3xual assault. He is charming, flirtatious and says a few mildly swoon-worthy lines that I have found myself enjoying, in spite of the cheesiness and the cliché surrounding the story. How to describe this hothead manipulative powerful man with a good sense of humor and a killer crooked grin?

I’m not going to lie, she made some… interesting choices, that perhaps irritated me a little, but hey, everyone makes mistakes! He was dedicated to Arwen pretty much from the moment they met, and she still, 400 pages later, is trying to find every little reason to hate him. I was invested from the first page, when I said “oh I’ll just read a chapter to get me started” and suddenly I was 40% through the book and it was 1:00am.

To make it out of enemy territory, she'll have to navigate back-stabbing royals, dark magic, and dangerous beasts. Her handsome arrogant jailor Kane is determined she pays her brother's debt in his stead but he is also surprisingly kind to her and though Arwen tries so hard to hate him she also can’t help reluctantly falling for his many charms. I did have a few issues in the first couple of chapters, mostly because I think Ryder is a little bit of an asshole, despite his sister thinking he's incredible and always comparing herself to him. Enzo has my heart forever (smug and sarcastic is already a dream comb I, like so many others, was lucky enough to find this book on TikTok and read it quite literally in one sitting. The writing is good, both MCs are likable, and the plot is interesting enough to make me want to read the sequel.
