About this deal

Howdens have agreed to replace the worktops but i dont want the same thing happening again so I need to find out a few things first. We don't as a general policy investigate the solvency of companies mentioned (how likely they are to go bust), but there is a risk any company can struggle and it's rarely made public until it's too late (see the Section 75 guide for protection tips).

P that it was missing in the first place, any decent fitter worth his salt would have advised you of this at the time that it was found to be missing. There really isn't any issue with PVC edged tops, unless some muppet of a fitter has cut it off and then tried re-edging it . From your description of the issues, i would say all of them were caused from bad fitting in the first place.Your model number will be a combination of letters and numbers, sometimes separated by a dash (-) or a slash (/). The protective strip that was sent with your Dishwasher MUST be fitted to the underside of the worktop. Important: Make sure your brand and model number is correct by using the "Check this part fits your appliance" box above. He's also used clear silicone on both sides of the DW, between the adjacent units so I imagine this was his way of stabilising it (I was wondering why that had been done). If he has "fixed" the D/W in position with silicone sealant as you describe, if something goes wrong with the appliance during the period of the maufacturers warranty, they will absolve themselves of all liability due to incorrect installation.

Newton Condensation Strip forms an 8mm gap between the Newton Basedrain perimeter drainage channel and wall membrane so that if condensation should form, it will be collected by the Basedrain and not pool on the floor, damaging finishes. Failure to fit the protector will invalidate the warranty of the Dishwasher and will definately, in time, ruin the worktop. I bought a replacement drainage pump for my tumble dryer and it was delivered earlier than expected. I'm not sure if they were fitted by the builders contractors or a howden fitter but they're replacing so thats ok. The D/W must be fixed firmly or else the machine will start to move and the door will be out of alignment.

If ,as it appears, there is no worktop to fix to on the RHS due to the sink cutout, then a small section of timber could have been fitted under the drainer to allow a screw to be fixed to it. Over eight million households on certain benefits and tax credits will receive their second cost of living payment from today (Tuesday 31 October). I'd just like to add to Snezza's excellent reply, that the sink cutout should have been sealed when it was done.

A decent fitter could also spot anything else that needs attention in the kitchen as I' guessing that there has to be something. Asking because it's very rare if ever that any of the major house builders would ever use Howdens as a supplier for kitchens. Oh and they're replacing the sink as that's got a razor sharp edge on which I cut my finger and just to finish the rant they're also replacing the undercounter freezer because that's faulty. Our Velux windows have a strip along the top that seems to be colder than the rest so the condensation forms on it and then drips off, forming a puddle on the floor below. The work tops are square edged and have degraded by the dishwasher the sink and also at a place where the worktops join. We've got a meeting on tuesday with Howdens so will now be able to tell them what should have been done. With some dishwashers you need to lower the door all the way down and look at the base of the dishwasher in the area normally obscured by the door. The Newton Condensation Strip can be used where the floor build is greater than 65mm to collect any condensation that may arise on the face of the waterproofing membrane. I've looked at B and Q worktops for example and they have a better quality worktop that is not showing exposed chipboard underneath. I'm sure there was, wife's friend had a square edge replaced a few months ago because the laminate swelled along a turned seam, underneath so maybe a manufacturing issue, don't know that much about it besides the lady in question was fuming.
