About this deal

This is an important book by the economist who has set the terms of so much political debate over the past decade. Join us for this event with Paul Johnson from the Institute for Fiscal Studies who will be talking about his new book, Follow the Money. This is a forensic examination – by the man best placed to do so – of the way the state raises and spends GBP1 trillion of our money every year. If you are on campus visiting for the day or attending a conference or event, you can connect your device to wireless. It is accepted by you that Daunt Books has no control over additional charges in relation to customs clearance.

He is also currently visiting professor in the Department of Economics at University College London. These cookies help provide information on metrics the number of visitors, bounce rate, traffic source, etc.

We aim to make all LSE events available as a podcast subject to receiving permission from the speaker/s to do this, and subject to no technical problems with the recording of the event. Johnson looks at what happened following the financial crisis of 2008-09 and the austerity years that followed. We are experiencing delays with deliveries to many countries, but in most cases local services have now resumed. He examines the way that the government tackled the economy during Covid – when the UK budget shot up to over a trillion for the first time – and he analyses prospects for our future as we grapple with looming recession and the cost of living crisis.

As well as a previous period of work at the IFS his career has included spells at HM Treasury, the Department for Education and the FSA. Event updates and other information about what’s happening at LSE can be found on the LSE's Facebook page and for live photos from events and around campus, follow us on Instagram. LSE has now introduced wireless for guests and visitors in association with 'The Cloud', also in use at many other locations across the UK. From time to time there are changes to event details so we strongly recommend that if you plan to attend this event you check back on this listing on the day of the event. To provide an explanation, of where that money comes from and where it goes to, how that has changed and how it needs to change.
