We see the Hydra, Cerberus, Minotaur, Pegasus and many other well-known mythical creatures and learn about their family trees as well as about the lineage of the afore-mentioned heroes.

I'm still not sure if these books are particularly recommendable for people that don't have a lot of previous knowledge of Greek mythology and are committed to "fix" this. Anyway, from a young age I’ve had a healthy obsession with Greek Mythology and I’ve read many, many books on the subject.

Like a dream coming true, Nicole took the trophy from Larry LaSalle and handed it to me, the radiance of her face mirroring my own.Because it covers so much ground in just a few hundred pages, Heroes leaves out some details, so I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a comprehensive guide to the heroes of Greek mythology. Im Großen und Ganzen war es ein ganz tolles Leseerlebnis und ich musste öfters schmunzeln, so charmant wie das Ganze erzählt wurde. My second Stephen Fry mythology book in as many days (I just read Mythos and loved that) and once again it gets 5*s leading me to think maybe I should try some of Fry's other books out. Once again Stephen Fry's extensive knowledge and enthusiasm for his subject make for joyful reading.

Francis is a very sympathetic character I would recommend this book to anyone who is bored with books with cliché plots and predictable endings. Edwards Award, Phoenix Award from the the Children’s Literature Association, and many more, which captures the attention of more and more young adults. Stephen Fry has attempted to make Ancient Greek heroes accessible to readers unfamiliar with them, though all the stories are very, very, brief and it’s their downfall. All of the characters in this book are well described and there was a lot of back story on each of them for such a short book.Instead of telling us about the creation myths, the gods and goddesses and their mingling with humans, the demigods and heroes undertaking quests and adventures take the stage in this one. Stephen Fry sums it up well I think in a quote that I will include, but mark as a spoiler, in case you want to read his thoughts after having read his version of Heracles story. The next afternoon I boarded the bus to Fort Delta, in my pocket the birth certificate I had altered to change my age, and became a soldier in the United States Army.

I was just blown away by Fry's description of why he loves these myths, and their importance to him, and why they should be key to our lives. As Greek Mythology can have the tendency of being slightly repetitive, I found the tail end of Mythos to be a bit dry, but still really enjoyed it. He dosen't know that Larry lets him win till he finds out , times passes and Francis meats a new girl arrivies at St Jude's who falls in love with.I had always wanted to be a hero like Larry LaSalle and all the others, but have been a fake all along.
