Description

The intended audience is children, and it would be much easier for them to read one continuous narrative. I received a review copy of this ebook from Quarto Publishing Group - Wide Eyed Editions and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. We’re building the world’s most authoritative, online mythology resource, with engaging, accessible content that is both educational and compelling to read.

The Odyssey, traditionally said to have been composed by Homer, is an epic poem probably written around the middle of the eighth century BCE. Not only was it an awkward large size (even for a book of this type it was odd); but the art in it is not engaging for children at all. Students, artists, poets, opera librettists, doctors, philosophers and the literate public of sixteenth- to eighteenth-century Europe drew from them an encyclopaedic knowledge of the cults and beliefs of antiquity. Victoria Topping lives in Bath and has worked as an artist and illustrator since graduating with a BA in Illustration in 2008.Every page is gorgeous and I think this would make a great coffee table book or something to have around for people to flip through. Each character has a unique and colorful visual portrayal which has added a unique dimension to the book. Hermes, the messenger of the gods, is also the god of thieves, athletes and the guide to the underworld.

An illustrated encyclopedia of Greek mythology like no other, Mythologica features startlingly beautiful and exquisitely otherworldly portraits of mythological characters in eye-popping colour from artist Victoria Topping and authoritative text from Classics scholar and Greek mythology expert Dr Stephen Kershaw. Sometimes the Greek gods and heroes are given Roman names too, so Odysseus becomes Ulysses, and Zeus becomes Jupiter or Jove! Uncover the colorful lives of 50 powerful gods and goddesses, earth-dwelling mortals, and terrifying monsters as you journey back in time to ancient Greece. The author, Dr Steve Kershaw, wrote a piece for TeenLibrarian about how his fascination developed, and who remain his favourite Gods, Heroes and Monsters!Ils ont des habitudes humaines : ils marchent, parlent, aiment, montrent de la colère ou de la joie. The information is brief but enough to summarise the main highlights of each of the featured entries. Fans of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson adventure series are hooked by its fast pace, monsters and mythological gods, from Zeus to Poseidon.

I myself love mythology and was aware of a lot of these stories already, but still learnt a thing or two. Of course, for a more tongue-in-cheek take on a mythological adventure series, Maz Evans’ Who Let the Gods Out books are super funny with a good heart, too. And they aren’t just odd sketches to flesh out a bit of narrative text, they are full-blown works of art of such a modern style, that young people will relate to the gods and goddesses as they would rock stars. The artstyle is stunning and I love that it has some techno vibes with the modern art (check the cover to have an idea of the artstyle). Set during the famous Trojan War, the poem describes the events following a quarrel between Achilles and Agamemnon.Over one-hundred-and-eleven glorious pages readers will learn about how Pandora was both unbelievably pretty and unbelievably dangerous. I’d forgotten many of the details and relationships among the Greek gods, monsters, and well-known humans, and this was a refreshing and engaging reminder. She uses multiple textures and images to create her work and uses a fusion of technology and traditional techniques – often using photography, painting, gold-leafing and cut up collage which is then digitally scanned and arranged on the computer. This book gives a selection of some of the greatest mortals, immortals and monsters in Greek mythology. Then he divides the human world from the wild underworld led by Veles, which is either a furrow plowed by Veles himself or a groove across the road carved by the shepherd with a knife which the evil powers cannot cross.

This is an amazingly illustrated book, which head shots of the major Greek gods, with all their symbolism in the illustration. An illustrated encyclopaedia of Greek mythology like no other, Mythologicafeatures startlingly beautiful and exquisitely otherworldly portraits of mythological characters in eye-popping colour from artist Victoria Topping and authoritative text from Classics scholar and Greek mythology expert Dr.I held off on this eARC to see a print copy as I feel like these 'coffee table' books require tangible touch to really feel their value. Ces mythes racontent des conflits entre les dieux, ou des batailles entre dieux et monstres, ou mettent en évidence des pouvoirs spéciaux que possédaient différents dieux. Uncover the colourful lives of 50 powerful gods and goddesses, earth-dwelling mortals and terrifying monsters as you journey back in time to ancient Greece. Each boldly designed spread presents a figure from the myths, including their name in Greek, their defining attributes, and a summary of their story, along with multiple sidelights that provide additional facts. Veles, or Volos, is the name of the pre-Christian Slavic God of Cattle, who in addition to his role as protector of domestic animals, was also the God of the Underworld and the bitter enemy of Perun, the Slavic God of Thunder.
