The story kind of gives mixed messages (though it does address this on the back cover): It repeats on every page "never touch a dinosaur" while encouraging children to touch a dinosaur. Many books claim to be tactile in nature when, in fact, the illustrations differ so slightly from the base page that the descriptor is almost a lie. The different “spikes” on each page of the book for the students to feel add such a unique touch to this book.

It talks about the illustrations as well as how you should probably go the other direction instead of touching a dinosaur of any type. There are two reasons I am giving 4 stars instead of 5, and both of them have more to do with me as a critic of the written word and much less to do with the book's suitability for babies. Never Touch a Dinosaur, by Rosie Greening, is such a fun book to read to younger elementary students. This woodland animal-themed touch-and-feel board book is great for children of all ages and fits perfectly into tiny hands.

I read this book to my “kindergarten friend” for an assignment for a class last week, and it was a huge hit.

He mainly likes to put them in his mouth but we’re getting to the point where we’re able to read and interact with them. Kids will love reading the silly rhymes that warn the dangers of touching the animals--and then ignoring the advice! I liked the rhymes and thought it would be a good baby book as well as a good book to start learning how to read with should it last that long. Our collection includes Never Touch a Dragon, Never Touch a Porcupine, Never Touch a Shark, Never Touch the Dinosaurs, Never Touch a Monster, and Never Touch a Tiger. I do wish there was just a bit more to the story but there are a lot of days that I really appreciate the brevity. Story is meh (I feel defiant about all these no animal touching statements 🤣) but the silicone textures are great. The whole “Never Touch” series of books are a must have for anyone who interacts with babies through Kindergarten. The colorful pages, interesting text, and of course ability to feel the texture on each page make this a book that’s sure to find its way into your favorite books.
