About this deal

The Panasonic/Leica 25mm disappointed a bit: it was good but I had expected it to be THE best of the bunch and it’s not. Only occasionally do they show the slightest hint of a hard edge (more noticeable as you stop down), but not enough to cause any concern. Rather than use the SEMA-1 mic system, which is excellent by the way, I’d rather use the electronic viewfinder and so I’ve decided to gather audio separately and sync together in post. The lens pairs most naturally with the Lumix DMC-GF1 (see our preview of that camera for many more images), but it works well on all Micro Four Thirds bodies. Being able to show a little more of the surroundings is also interesting as an option for the street photog.

On compact Micro Four Thirds bodies it offers impressive image quality and low-light capability in a package significantly smaller and more discreet than any DSLR system. This obviously increases the depth of field in the live view image, which can potentially lead to inaccurate manual focus when shooting at large apertures (exacerbated by a false impression that manual focus is easily obtained). So as I wrap up this review let me say that Panasonic is leading the race in quality lenses for the m4/3 system. Nikon's latest Z-mount lens is a 600mm you can handhold for hours for wildlife and sports photography or pack away for travel when you want to leave the monopod and tripod at home.My LUMIX GF1 (white ivory, with the pancake lens) arrived just 10 days ago, and I am absolutely happy with it. Curious – have you compared the results you obtained with some of the Canon offerings attached to a 5D (mk 1 or 2)? But the trade-off is a tighter crop (60mm in Full-frame terms) and a lens construction that's quite a bit longer and about twice as heavy as the Panasonic. It does well in all aspects of our studio tests, and produces fine images in a wide range of situations while also focusing quickly, silently and decisively. Panasonic LX-100 for me is a good camera that used to carry often, but I also have Sony RX1 and Leica Q2.

Somehow i did not find reason to use it because the images from the 12-40mm are clearly sharper and usually more pleasing. which lets you magnify more easily the screen viewer it is easy to focus with Nikon and other non-autofocus glass. The full frame pixels in that example will be bigger so the image will appear darker but it just needs a the values to be rescaled and you will have the same image with the same noise performance. Constant preview does not solve it, when you press focus button camera opens aperture all the way to f/1. Just one more thing: the GF1 is a very versatile camera with the possibility to use other manufactures’ lenses, i.

and 14-42 Kit lenses but it is pretty cool that you can mount the Panny lenses on the Oly bodies and vice versa.
