About this deal

The art was great as usual, the writing is solid, and what happens is certainly interesting but seems to get there too quickly.

Another early victim, Patchwork, can be carved up by swords but replaces lost limbs with those of others. The off-the-wall creative spark that Remender and Opeña displayed in the opening arc of Uncanny X-Force springs forth uncensored on nearly every page of Seven to Eternity. There's a mercenary who changes sides whenever his sword tells him a new client is a better bet, and excuses all his actions with the simple "I got a frog to feed. The pure White Lady, who in a flashback sequence is revealed as having refused to save Osidis’ sick son, is a hypocrite. It’s not even a remotely compelling story: there’s Adam Osidis’ dull farm life followed by a big confusing fight between the goodies and the baddies which takes up a lot of space, and then they’re on the road.

Seven to Eternity Series by Rick Remender - Goodreads

The Seven come to realise that the Mud King has his own agenda, and even while he is caged, they are his pawns. I rarely pick up a random book (or comic) that I've never heard of, but my husband's coworker gave it to him to read, so obviously I read it first! However his pa’s not the only dissident in the land and a rebellion is stirring against his Royal Muddiness! And then, the titular climax - why this comic is named so; the weight and misconception of prophecy; the vicious cycle and its breaking. From start to finish, it layers all the threads that have been woven into a tapestry of everything from waging a war on the inherent loneliness of being alive to vanquishing the most monstrous villain there is, Self-Interest.

Being my first step into Remender's work, he has definitely hooked me in and I'm sure I'll enjoy his other stories just as much. The visuals are have such a distinctive style which is hard to master in the graphic novel universe. He knows when to keep to the storytelling but then open it up to single or even double splash pages. I've been with this series from the start and over the several years it took to put out 17 issues it somehow ended up feeling rushed at the end.

Digamos que não seja uma edição muito amigável para quem esteja começando a leitura sem ter algum conhecimento do que se trata a história. All stuff Remender goes on and on about, almost like he's projecting through the characters themselves to where it's annoying, but still appropriate for the story. It really goes far beyond the idea of what is a hero and what is a villain, to really ask the tough questions of its characters and its society. Remender often takes an idea like this and examines it from a few angles, writing through his analysis as he (what seems like) figures it out for himself in his personal life. Zeb is able to determine who has succumbed to the whispered promise of Garils Sulm, and regards those who have as beneath contempt. His versatility to be able to tell a small story that is personal and relatable and also a huge story spanning galaxies populated by a myriad of alien creatures - and also make that personal and relatable is pretty amazing. But, really, it is a long bow to draw to find an analogy between an American politician and a fictional fantasy character who can leech into the souls of those he rules.
