About this deal

The Christmas Murder Game has all those much-loved trademarks of traditional crime mysteries and comes liberally sprinkled with snow, a thick layer of skulduggery, a scattering of intriguing clues and puzzles, and an entertaining cast of deeply dysfunctional characters. A suspenseful and claustrophobic Christmas murder mystery, this was like Agatha Christie with a dash of Cluedo. The writing is unnecessary festive and flowery in an attempt to hide anagrams but it just takes you out of the story.

Never fear; enough suspects will remain at the end to make the big reveal moderately surprising, though the bigger surprise is how many felonies end up attributed to how many perpetrators. Benedict adds a series of anagrams from the 12 Days of Christmas in the narrative, along with titles of other known murder mystery novels too. Lily's prize differs however, as she is playing to discern which, amongst all those gathered, are keeping secrets about her mother's death.A heart-pounding and addictive locked-room murder mystery, this sensational debut is the perfect puzzle for crime lovers. In Lily, Benedict gives us an inspirational heroine to shout for – brave, determined and intensely human – as she sets her sights firmly on digging out the truth even as the bodies mount and her chances of surviving the twelve days of Christmas seem to recede by the hour. So she agrees to play along with her cousins Tom and Ronnie and Rachel Armitage, whom she rather likes, and Sara Armitage-Feathers, whom she doesn’t much like at all and suspects of murder.

Che dire, ho assaporato ogni pagina, ogni capitolo, ogni giorno, fino ad arrivare alla conclusione di questa bella lettura. DISCLOSURE: Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press via Netgalley for providing a digital ARC of The Christmas Murder Game by Alexandra Benedict for review. As another review said, how could this be at once predictable and flat, yet vastly over-complicated.Castle, who is responsible for ensuring everyone plays by the rules and that the clues are handed out on schedule. But everyone at Endgame House is hiding secrets, including Lily, some of which are darker than others. Lily Armitage, a corsetier still grieving her mother, Mariana Armitage, who died under questionable circumstances on Boxing Day 21 years ago, doesn’t want her Aunt Liliana’s house, but she does want to honor her memory. Second in the military crime series featuring Special Agents Scott Brodie and Magnolia "Maggie" Taylor, after The Deserter (2019). And then we're meant to see this aunt as a loving and caring individual who everyone looks up to and loves?

E finalmente quest'anno saremo ancora tutti insieme, a mangiare come se non ci fosse un domani, a giocare a tombola, a cantare con il karaoke che sta a prendere polvere per 12 mesi meno un giorno. I enjoyed this format, but wished at times that I could refer to the hard copy, as the author included a family tree diagram to keep track of the family members. The first individual to uncover the secret room will receive the entire house, and the land it resides upon, as their own. The writing style was especially painful in it's over use of simile and metaphor, it was like reading a school exercise in using imagery, totally overdone. Anagrama: Cambio en el orden de las letras de una palabra o frase que da lugar a otra palabra o frase distinta.I'd recommend it as a seasonal read to any reader who enjoys modern interpretations of traditional formats and cryptic puzzles sprinkled throughout their mystery reads. The various resentments, alliances and shared histories of the protagonists immediately become clear as the cousins reconnect and settle into Endgame. If you love books with bickering families, dark mysteries, uncomfortable truths and a trail of intricately weaved clues that keep readers guessing from one chapter to the next, then Alexandra Benedict’s The Christmas Murder Game is the perfect winter-time book to curl up with.

She was also a composer for film and TV, with music played on BBC 1, Channel Four, Sky, XFM, Radio 1, Radio 3 and in award-winning films. It's always obvious when an author is focusing only on one aspect of the story and instead of writing cohesive, quality prose, they just cater to one element and entirely ignore the rest.
