About this deal

Me puedo imaginar perfectamente lo que siente Patrick cuando le llega la tentación de poner más muñecos,o cuando Omri descubre que son seres vivos y que no se tiene de "jugar" con ellos. And Boone - he's supposed to be a hard-ridin', fast-talkin' cowboy who refuses to bathe, but he also cries because he's lonely and scared. There’s no telling where the cupboard actually came from because Gillon found it in an alley, but it’s in a box and looks brand new. Some may also be our overreacting: the whole "me talks" thing gets pegged as racism a bit too much considering how hard it is for anyone not raised in multiple languages at birth to become as fluent in a second tongue as even a native small child.

Omri's school headmaster confronts Omri about his prize-winning story, believing that it might be true, as he had previously been shocked by these same "tiny people" on a day when Omri brought Little Bear to see his school. Fearing the tiny man will turn back into a toy if he leaves him in the cupboard, Omri asks him to come out. Omri realizes that Jessica gave the earrings to Tom, who gave them to his daughter without knowing they were stolen. Nine-year old Omri is given two important gifts for his birthday: a plastic Indian figure from his friend Patrick and a metal cupboard from his brother. He presents them with an egg cup full of warm water, gets them to bathe, and puts them in his pockets for school. He tries to comfort her about what happened and when she hears that he's Lottie's grandson she agrees to make a magical copy of the car key. Nevertheless, Patrick uses the cupboard without Omri's knowledge, bringing to life the plastic cowboy, who turns out to be a man named Boone from an entirely different place and time as Little Bear. I appreciate how the author had the boy evolve from seeing the Indian as a plaything to realizing that, regardless of his size, the Indian was a person with needs, feelings, and a right to live his life. I think it's obvious to Omri, as well as to the reader, that Little Bear has a very strong system of values that include intelligence, skill, self-reliance, courage, and hard work, among other things.

The L-Shaped Room’ was also adapted for the cinema and highlighted the stigma of being an unmarried mother at that time (perhaps I should have read that book instead…. Imagina que gracias a una llave puedas traer a la vida a tus juguetes, pero serían personas personas pequeñas, pero personas que vienen de sus lugares, con un pasado, con sus vidas.

As the headmaster threatens Omri that he will find out the truth, Omri fears that the secret will get revealed to adults and they will try to alter history for their own benefit.
