The law states Alessandra cannot debut in society until her sister is married, and she is ready to step out on her own to gain the recognition she craves. The only time Father bothers to think of me is when he catches me doing something he thinks I shouldn’t. It pulled this book away from a fresh, exciting concept into something more mundane and ordinary YA.

First and foremost, I would like to address the people who say “ this isn’t dark enough to be Slytherin” and if you’re one of them, I want to tell you—quite politely of course—to shut up. i get that it was trying to be a standalone fantasy but it seemed like there was so much here that wasn't explored. The exploration of love, loyalty, and deception is profound, making it a must-read for fans of dark fantasy. I can't wait to dig into more of Levenseller's books, and I'm excited to start reading more standalone fantasy. At first, I wasn’t sure about them because I thought Alessandra bonded better with one of the male side characters.
The forge has always been Ziva’s safe space, a place to avoid society and the anxiety it causes her, but now it is her prison, and she’s not sure just how much of herself she’ll have to sacrifice to save Kellyn before she takes center stage in the very war she’s been trying to stop.

I do worry about the sex positive thingm because as aro and ace I know how it’s usually turned against me and folks like me. Dethroned Royalty, Captive Princess, Court Politics, Revenge Plot, Love Triangle, Resistance Movement, Hidden Identity, Cruel Rulers, Psychological Torture, Forbidden Romance, Betrayal and Loyalty, Rebellion, Colonialism Allegory, Cultural Erasure, Morally Grey Characters, Power Dynamics, Rituals and Traditions, Underestimated Protagonist, Personal Growth, Inner Strength.The Shadows Between Us was delightful to read, and while I wish it dove further into the plot with more details, deeper characters, and darker conflict, I couldn’t help but enjoy it for what it was. When she's not writing or reading, Tricia enjoys putting together jigsaw puzzles, playing Overwatch, and watching her favorite TV shows while eating extra-buttered popcorn. A thousand years after that, we follow Eliana, a bounty hunter working for the Empire, which is the evil government in place now. Their real and proper development and process of falling in love stands up and out of the page and is a bonus in Tricia Levenseller’s favour. I’m totally here for anti-heroes and morally gray characters, but this MC brought nothing to the story that was likable or sympathetic to me.
