Disposable swim nappies are not very effective at preventing faeces from entering the pool, especially looser stools. If your child has had diarrhoea then skip the swimming session until they are completely better.

Developmental issues and disabilities can often mean that a child is in nappies for longer than we would want. We have had a couple of customers recently that called us out of desperation seeking a bigger nappy for their child. We were able to help and I thought some parents might find this article useful. Most reusable swim nappies can be worn on their own, however, for extra protection you may want to combine with a disposable swim nappy, a Nappy Wrap, and/or liner.I admit I was nervous for her and hoping they would fit her and as I did up the tapes I realised that it fit her perfectly which was good and she begrudgingly admitted that she was comfortable. To clean a soiled reusable swim nappy hand wash in cool water and leave to dry away from direct sunlight. If your child has a bowel movement then change them immediately in the baby change facilities, not at the side of the pool. The parents we spoke to decided to go with our MoliCare Soft All in One Extra, Size extra small. This is an extra small sized adult nappy. Because it's designed for adults (but in a smaller size) it has many features that aren't usually found in baby nappies. For instance, it has internal leak guards and wide elasticated leg cuffs which will help keep leaks to a minimum. They also have four tapes instead of two, making the fit better and them less likely to come undone.

Put your child’s regular swimwear over the reusable swim nappy or just use the nappy on its own. The Splash About Happy Nappy is designed to look like regular swimwear so can be worn on its own. Disposable swim nappies may not contain loose stools as they are not very robust and can leak around the seams. The Happy Nappy features wide cuffs made from neoprene fabric which creates a tight (but comfortable) seal around the thighs and tummy, which will keep solid and semi-solid faeces at bay. At first as you would expect she wasn't happy and put up a few arguments about the things youd expect but eventually after talking to her about it and convincing her nobody would know apart from people that needed to know and a small bit of bribery with a small chocolate bar she eventually agreed to let me put a nappy on her. Splash About’s Happy Nappy range is suitable for children up to 3 years old and looks just like regular swimwear, so if your child has recently been potty trained, this range can give you peace of mind that there will be no leaks should an accident happen. A Swim Nappy, whether disposible or reusable, will not hold water. This of course means they won't hold in urine, but they also won't swell and cause discomfort whilst in the water. Many first time users are not aware of this and are alarmed when urine leaks from the nappy on the way to the pool! Swim nappies should only be put on just before you get into the pool and should be changed as soon as possible after a faecal accident. There are currently no waterproof swim nappies on the market.

Nappies for bed wetting are not recommended for every child but if your child has special needs, a developmental disability or is a particularly heavy wetter, nappies are an option. Again, ask your doctor about this, and you can also visit the bedwetting charity ERIC for more information.

Bigger Nappies For Bedwetting?

Put the reusable nappy on your child. Most reusable swim nappies work fine on their own but you may want your child to wear a disposable swim nappy underneath. The Happy Nappy can be used with a Nappy Wrap with optional nappy liners for easy cleaning. If you chose the Happy Nappy Duo, there is no need for any other under nappy at all. Feature tightly woven fabric and secure but comfortable leg and tummy cuffs to fully contain any faeces. While very loose stools are completely normal for young babies that are exclusively breastfed, if your child is older and is experiencing diarrhoea, then it’s important to keep them away from the water until they feel better. No swim nappy can contain urine, so don’t put them on your child too soon! Urine in the pool is not a problem because it’s sterile when it leaves the body. If there are any pathogens from an infection for example, the pool chemicals kill them.

Special absorbent material that doesn't swell or fall apart in water so the swim nappies won't weigh down your little swimmers. Below is a scale photo of Pampers Size 6+, Asda Little Angels Size 6+ and MoliCare Soft Extra Size Extra Small. The differences you can see are that the Pampers (on the left) has a slightly bigger absorbent pad than the Asda Little Angels (in the middle). The MoliCare on the right has a far larger absorbent pad. It is slightly longer, but much wider. You can also see that the pad is wider at the top and bottom, allowing greater capacity. We have covered the choices available from the supermarkets, and given you information about our MoliCare Extra size Extra Small nappy, but what if you find you need the very most absorbent nappy available?

The Most Absorbent Nappy

Where capacity is a problem, we sell our Strampelpeter Booster Pads which can be inserted into the bed wetting pants to increase capacity. The disadvantage here is that you might want a more convenient way to change the nappy without completely undressing your child. Some children need a nappy that is more absorbent than the Drynites or Underjams products. They are also quite expensive in comparison to the smaller nappies. These numbers refer to the nappy size and not the age of the child, so choose a size similar to your child’s regular nappies. Choose a snug but comfortable fit to minimise the risk of leaks.
