About this deal

Alongside over 600 photographs taken by Mick Rock, Bowie's personal and often humorous commentary gives unprecedented insight into his work and the creation of his most memorable persona. It’s a massive coffee-table art book, with lavish images of Bowie in the Seventies from photographer Mick Rock. It is a new, uncut large format edition, released to coincide with the launch of the documentary movie Moonage Daydream by Brett Morgen and an exhibition of Mick Rock’s photos at Atlas Gallery, London.

The book is dedicated to the memory of the much-missed Mick Ronson and is the essential Ziggy Stardust book. We can see how Bowie created his Ziggy and the Spiders From Mars in their flamboyant costumes and exotic hair and make-up. In 1972 David Bowie released the instant classic The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars—a record without which any Greatest Albums of All Time list is simply incomplete. These include reflections on his collaboration with mime artist Lindsay Kemp; the breakthrough tour of the USA, the massive sell-out UK tour that culminated in Ziggy's official retirement; and the recording of Pin Ups in Paris, Mick rock's camera caught more of the Ziggy legend than any other and followed Bowie into hotel rooms, on the road and socialising with musicians and friends including Mick Jagger, Lou Reed and Iggy Pop.He was monumental in bringing Iggy Pop and Lou Reed to the UK for the first time and was the ultimate king of glam rock.

Featuring more than 600 photographs from Mick Rock's vast archive, Moonage Daydream takes the reader from the early English Concerts where Ziggy and the Spiders from Mars made their names, to Ziggy's final swansong, the flamboyant 1980 Floor Show.

This chronicles Ziggy Stardust, not the story of Ziggy, but of the evolution and performances of David Bowie (and Mick Rock's photography skills). Within the set is an exclusive Mick Rock Estate-stamped print of a photograph not previously included in Moonage Daydream.

All in all, a very, very well-edited tome of one of the biggest - if not The biggest - pop-star these modern days have seen. We'd driven there in a Robin Reliant (I was a passenger - I still don't drive), a three wheeler, three of us, and we picked up a hitchhiker on the way.
