I chose the Boss pedal because it was cheaper, lightweight, small footprint, very well constructed and the same 10k pot as the recommended expression pedals for the helix. I pretty happy with it. It may be useful if you have an external pedal with EXP output and then you can control the helix and that pedal using the EV30. The extra functionality of the EV-30 takes a minute to sort. Two controls labeled “min” let you dial in the expressive range of each output. And if you want to dial in very specific relationships between two effects, you’ll need some patience. But exploring such nebulous relationships is great fun. And the way respective sweeps collide and slide past one another exploits the personalities (or personality clash) of familiar effects in unexpected ways. The pedal comes with a short stereo TRS cable for connecting to other equipment, this is a great idea. It allows you to get playing immediately.A key feature of the EV-30 is an innovative internal mechanism that provides ultra-smooth feel and precise parameter control, delivering performance that rivals full-size pedals. And with two expression outputs, you can save further space by controlling two different devices from a single pedal. The outputs are electronically isolated, eliminating the possibility of noise issues from ground loops.
