About this deal

My latest book is A GAME OF LIES, the instant Sunday Times bestseller, and the second in my crime series featuring Welsh detective Ffion Morgan, who we first meet in THE LAST PARTY. In the aftermath, Jenna struggles with the pressing desire to leave the city as quickly as possible and boards a bus to wherever the rolling of the wheels may take her.

I remember doing a twelve-hour scene watch in the pouring rain when I was a probationer, then getting told off by the DCI for not smiling when he turned up at eight o’clock the next morning. I discard a jumper and a fistful of T-shirts, making room instead for the wooden box in which my memories are hidden, crammed one on top of another beneath the cedar lid. This book instantly became one my all-time favorite psychological thrillers—a must-read for readers of all genres. They wiped their feet and walked up the narrow hallway, pushing past an overloaded coat rack, beneath which sat a pair of child’s red wellies, neatly placed beside an adult pair. The case they have been assigned is of a young boy killed in a hit-and-run right in front of his mother. Overall, I loved the atmosphere, the mystery was strong, as well as the police procedural aspects of the story. A columnist for Cotswold Life and Writing Magazine, she is the founder of Chipping Norton Literary Festival. Ray is pretty useless and his perspective is mostly him flirting blandly with another police officer while his poor wife looks after the kids.

The twists that define and propel the second half of the book are made possible by Mackintosh’s fastidious character development in the book’s first half. The author has written a psychological thriller that may seem to point to certain apparent facts to some readers but turns things around as the story unfolds. I somewhat enjoyed the first part of this novel and the writing along with the descriptions but would I recommend this book?

The introduction of Patrick, Jenna’s potential love interest, offers some light in this mostly dark tale. Sees the dark shadow form beneath his head and hears her own wail as though it comes from someone else. They’d all been through it; even Ray, who had spent as little time in uniform as possible before moving on.I Let You Go follows Jenna Gray as she moves to a ramshackle cottage on the remote Welsh coast, trying to escape the memory of the car accident that plays again and again in her mind and desperate to heal from the loss of her child and the rest of her painful past.

It would be virtually impossible to survive a fall of that nature, and we know from other sections of the book (Patrick’s girlfriend, the father and son canoeists lost at sea, and the experiences shared by the local Detective Inspector) that bodies often take some time to wash up on the coast. Trigger Warnings for: spousal abuse (physical and emotional) ON PAGE, death of a child, and miscarriage caused by violence. I have created this page to answer your questions about that final paragraph, but I will need your help to make sure the ending isn’t spoiled for those who haven’t yet reached it. I only let go for a second’ languishes the mother of five year old Jacob Jordan, who’s son is the victim of a hit and run accident, on a cold winter’s night in Bristol, England. The characters were described in detail so you got the picture of how they thought and who they were as people. It's the most personal book I've written, and I've loved hearing from readers who have connected with it. All I will say is that the plot is cleverly written, with twists that I have already told you are amazing and plenty more surprise moments along the way. The two men had been on shift together for several years, and with a strength that belied his small stature, Stumpy was a handy crewmate to have on your side.
