About this deal

By the time Legolas is surfing a dead elephant after taking it out, it’s impressive to think about the sheer scale of this movie. goes behind the sound-effects work, showing how much of the audio for the film was added on later, something that becomes even more noticeable after thumbing through “Sound Demonstration for Helm's Deep” (1 min. They meet Aragorn (Mortensen) who helps them get to Elrond (Hugo Weaving) so they can decide what to do with the ring. Boasting marginally improved video and audio for the second and third movies, as well as now holding all of the extras previously available on both the Extended Edition SD-DVDs and the Limited Edition Theatrical SD-DVDs (i. This fan's favorite literary giant became a fan favorite cinematic giant immediately, but will it be a gigantic Blu-ray system seller?

Yep, Serkis provides some comic relief as everyone's favorite bipolar case provides his thoughts on the making of. It's weird that they would make this choice; one wonders if maybe they had a slightly magenta-ish monitor, which would explain why adding green made it look normal to them. Again, there are conflicting reports over whether or not this new encode was struck from the same HD master as the original theatrical Blu-ray renditions, but – either way – the results are pretty comparable, and also pretty damn good.

The longest addition is the one that fans (and Christopher Lee) have been clamoring for since it was announced that it was snipped: the resolution of Saruman (Lee) and Grima Wormtounge (Brad Dourif). They are welcome, but it points to how much was sacrificed to get the film down to its already unwieldy theatrical length. Academy Award wins on each outing, culminating in Best Picture and Best Director wins with the third installment.

As five great armies go to war, Bilbo fights for his life, and the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must unite or be destroyed. Neither that nor the similarly barely noticeable edge enhancement really affects your viewing pleasure in any significant way. Disc three offers “The Appendices Part One — From Book to Vision” and covers the journey of FOTR from page to screen. For all my niggles about them not being presented on actual Blu-ray discs, or my worries about further embellishment, there is no way that this extras package could receive anything less than a 10/10.By then and soon after, there will either be a reboot, remake, or some new HD media will come out making all previous discs obsolete! Jackson should be very proud of what he has achieved here, in creating these films he has changed the course of cinematic history, the present of cinematic history and the future of cinematic history.

The cast is just as brilliant as everything else, Elijah Wood and Sean Astin as Frodo and Sam, Viggo Mortensen as Aragon, Ian Mckellen as Gandalf, Liv Tyler as Arwin, Cristopher Lee as Saruman, Orlando Bloom as Legolas, John Rhys Davis as Gimly and all the rest of the cast are perfectly suited for their roles. That said, this is still a better rendition than that which was encountered for the Theatrical Blu-ray release.Looking back, with the other films finished, it stands apart as certainly the least polished of the trilogy, but to start out a story with this much bang was just what the series needed. Watching them again, the films still feel perfect, and though there may be some bad jokes, and perfectionists may wish that more of the books made it on screen (or were added to the extended cuts), the sheer scale that Jackson gets to by the final chapter is one of the great achievements of cinema. and it reveals the labor that went into the film's 1,488 special-effects shots, more than the two previous films combined.
