About this deal

This book sees Simon Serailler involves in a heroin overdose that could be murder and an investigation into County Lines drug activity. A Change of Circumstance would read well as a stand-alone but you will get more out of the books if you read them in sequence. A Change of Circumstance reminds me of the repositioning sails cruise ships do, to move, free of passengers, to another location to begin ferrying people in a different area. Neither of these children are entirely typical prospective victims for County Lines: Brookie’s father is well-meaning and caring albeit in a somewhat gruff manner; Olivia’s mother is equally well meaning and much more present, if perhaps her time is taken with her own life, divorce, work and health issues; both are still in school and education; Olivia has a wide and caring social group.

Dark, page-turning, and rich in mood and character, Susan Hill’s A Change of Circumstance lands brilliantly as another gripping entry to the Serrailler canon, sure to enthrall fans and newcomers alike. And there are new problems to manage as drugs are finding there way into the smaller towns and villages now and the runners are involving local kids. You might be receiving benefits from Jobcentre Plus, HM Revenue and Customs and/or your local authority and should tell each office about your change. Professionally, he finds himself having to confront the nightmare rise and spread of the county lines drugs trade, a threat to young people, the exploitation of children, with all the attendant threats it poses to the community. It is important you notify us quickly, using the above link, so that we can pay you the right amount of Benefit/Support. If you have a contract or letter of appointment to your new job which shows details of your pay you could provide this.

It didn't feel it was finished, perhaps the story will continue into the next book and Simon' s story was a little too neat and tidy at the end. After separating from your partner, you may receive some benefits or tax credits that you were not able to get when living with a partner, or you might get an increased or decreased amount of the same benefits and Tax Credits.Vulnerable local kids like Brookie and Olivia, whose involvement gives Serrailler a bitter taste of this new landscape. When you apply for Housing Benefit / Council Tax Reduction, you will sign a declaration which confirms that you will tell us of any change in your personal circumstances which may affect the payment of your claim. Changes in your circumstances can affect how much you’re paid for your whole assessment period - not just from the date you report them.

Report changes using your Universal Credit online account if you have one or contact the Universal Credit helpline. You must tell us about any changes to your circumstances that may affect your Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction. But the depiction of Brookie and his bouncer father, subsisting on food banks – okay, fair enough – and things that he and his father and brothers can steal from skips, did strike me as… problematic. This is a somewhat uneven entry in what has become the Serrailler soap opera: some of the storylines have stultified, particularly the case with Cat and her family where tiny issues are given unwarrantable page space (Kieron's pulled ligament, the lost dog, Cat writing to the Health Secretary to complain about a single patient's treatment on a local hospital ward). It’s a harsh winter in Lafferton, and with struggles both at home and on the job, Serrailler soon learns that even the familiar can hold shocking surprises. His sister, Cat, in contrast enjoys a messy farmhouse family life complete with her second husband (Simon's boss), three children, a demanding job and an injured dog. Tommy, Connor and Alf had all caught the school bus but Brookie was struggling behind with all his stuff in a flimsy carrier bag - and missed the bus.
