Then one track stops and the other keeps on going and the tank wheels around and lurches straight towards you, roaring and squealing. He went to law school in Sheffield, England, and after part-time work in the theater he joined Granada Television in Manchester for what turned out to be an eighteen-year career as a presentation director during British TV's "golden age. Funding being cut, positions being lost and positions being given to bad seeds, and lots of times where his brother is encouraging him to watch his future and watch his back. While almost everyone else is out celebrating, Reacher is the Military Police duty officer on the post when a two star general is found dead in a sleazy motel thirty miles from the base.

There is something very wrong going on in the US Army and Jack will break as many heads as he needs to to find out what is going on. Yes he is still in the army and has not yet started his vagabond lifestyle, but it felt unsettling and impractical. The two are of like minds when it comes to the investigation and together they start a chain reaction that will have, even the top brass, worried. I do wonder if Reacher makes the decision he does at the end because of people like Willard and others like him in the army. You know jack travels around with no change of clothes, sometimes no money and meets extremely, unbelievably, impossibly beautiful women who all fall helplessly in love with him.He obviously has honour and fights for what is right but even MPs can't go off doing half of what he does and get away with it. Soldier Jack Reacher tries to uncover a complex conspiracy that emerges after the collapse of the Berlin Wall. I've got to say I like the books but after a while the logical flaws begin to bother me a bit and I lay them aside until I can beef up my "suspension of reality" muscles again. This novel shows us how Reacher got demoted from Major to Captain and shows the start of when Reacher stopped truly believing in the army.

Căderea comunismului a luat prin surprindere armată americană, care nu mai avea motive să mențină un număr mare de angajați. This is one of my favorite Lee Child books - and that says a lot as I would say he IS my favorite author! Known for his hold-your-breath action scenes, Child proves equally adept at portraying how a criminal investigation uses the smallest of building blocks (a yogurt container) to construct a compelling circumstantial case. Combine that with finely textured relationships--always an extra dimension in this series--and you have a novel that takes Child in a new direction (more Michael McGarrity than Stephen Hunter) but does so flawlessly. This is important as you move into the later books in the series because it helps you understand the way he approaches almost everything in life.

For the most part, this story was so convoluted, twisting around on itself and so full of betrayals! Before accepting his new command, he tracks down the corrupt Willard and executes him in his own house, planting drugs on the body to hide his involvement.

And then, many miles away, when Reacher goes to the general's house to break the sad news, he finds a battered corpse: the general's wife. He also reveals that Carbone filed a complaint against Reacher accusing him of assaulting the bouncer, and that he intends to use it as evidence that Reacher killed Carbone unless he closes the investigation quickly. It's one thing in the corporate world but when it comes to the military or the church---or government! Even though I felt like the action took a backseat to the suspense, it definitely had me hooked throughout. I particularly liked his style of letting us into the secrets without giving away too much of the coming plot.

Reacher deduces that Kramer was gay, and that he met Carbone at the motel, who stole his briefcase when he died and informed Brubaker of the contents. We work closely with publishers and authors to ensure that we offer the best books on the market for your child.

I now know the difference between class A's and BDU's and all so inoffensively absorbed, i also now know how to do a u-turn the american way thanks to Somer ! I thought I might go climb down under the Pont des Invalides, late at night, and just sniff the air. Marshall attempts to commit suicide by maneuvering the tanks into firing on his position, but Reacher shoots him in the shoulder and takes him into custody. The missing agenda is subsequently retrieved from Carbone's billet: it contains a plan to assassinate eighteen prominent infantry officers, including many rising stars, to cripple their modernization efforts. There was so much happening that I wished I could turn the pages fast enough because I desperately wanted to find out the truth behind these murders! He gets into trouble, he gets into more trouble, then there is a fight or something gets blown up, then everything works out, and Reacher moves on. Reacher’s boss is transferred out and replaced by Willard who tells Reacher not to investigate these deaths. I think I was distracted in the listening process, and if I had held this one in my hands, I would have said it was too wordy.
