About this deal

Based in Denver, Colorado, Murphy is an avid hiker, runner, backpacker, skier, yogi, and pack-paddleboarder.

As the name suggests, it’s built to be adventurous, and the increased volume means it can cope brilliantly with choppy sections of the sea and stays stable in the wind – it even performs against a turning tide.

This paddle allows for less energy consumption as compared to regular paddles as the intuitive design makes it easier to maneuver. While hand-pumping the SUP, we also noticed the job didn’t seem to take as long — perhaps because the volume we aimed to fill was a bit lower. It’s not the lightest, but relative to the durability it’s fairly easy to carry, portage, and travel with. The board can take a single passenger weighing in the region of 60kg to 80kg, and can be used to cruise and to traverse small waves. It doesn’t always mean that one is better than the other, it just has to be best for your personal situation.

If you want to banish the wobble factor that plagues many beginners, the larger size of the previously mentioned waterwalker is the most stable platform that we paddled. While they’ve traditionally been seen as limited for recreational use, the increasingly fast designs of inflatable SUPs mean they’re even being used in races, highlighting how high performance they’ve become. The type of blade on your SUP paddle is normally a matter of personal preference, however as a general rule; a rectangular paddle is made for a slower but stronger stroke and a teardrop shape is for a faster but weaker stroke. The blade has structural reinforcements providing flexibility at the point where the most force is applied. Most SUPs nowadays include a repair and patch kit, but no one wants to have to deal with that on the water. You won’t have pockets to carry extra items, and you’ll need to plan ahead for how you’ll attach everything to your board rather than leaving random items beachside (like the pump and shoulder harness). They are a great option for all experience levels, have a variety of uses (flatwater and whitewater), and don’t require special racks or extra storage. When looking for the best paddle, it is important to get the right length as a paddle with the wrong length will be awkward to use. We didn’t think the weight would make much of a difference, but we definitely noticed that lifting up this nimble SUP and carrying it to the water’s edge was faster and easier compared to heavier models. After reviewing the best brands and models for paddles on the market, we have found the best paddles for paddle boarding.

Plus, their durability means they’ll survive a few knocks and bumps, and can be rebent into shape if required.

If you spend a long time on the water it is absolutely necessary to stay hydrated, so why not make it a good and cool drink by using a paddle board cooler in addition to your other paddle board accessories? Take a look at this board if you want something super packable and light for paddling at home or traveling.
