About this deal

The Planetarium Star Globe creates a light-up globe of the major constellations such as Orion, Pegasus, and Ursa Major that projects onto the walls and ceiling of a darkened room. The base makes the globe rotate and a light pointer helps you to highlight particular stars and constellations. The Science Mad Chemistry Lab comes well equipped with a selection of 10 different chemicals as well as a real methylated spirit burner. IT is a perfect kit for those aged 10+. The Instruction manual features over 80 different safety tested experiments which are really easy to follow and understand. I love that the safety remains a key element of the Chemistry Lab and you are reminded at each stage of any safety tips.

Using these kits, children are guided through fun experiments in the fields of chemistry, physics, electronics and more. I also learned a few things while supervising, so it is fun for the whole family and definitely a brilliant way of exploring hands on learning for kids who have a natural curiosity for Science and a thirst for exploring and gaining knowledge. The detailed instruction booklet contains fascinating experiments and explains how crystals were formed when the gases the Earth is made from cooled, millions of years ago. You get some different shaped cardboards included which allow you to grow and train your crystals into different shapes, like grow a real crystal into the shape of a tree – how cool is that! The Science Mad Planetarium Star Globe creates a globe lit up of the major constellations such as Pegasus, Ursa Major and Orion. The Walls and ceiling literally come alive in a darkened room. It is battery operated so can be moved around and placed easily within any room. The Planetarium requires 6 AA Batteries, 4 for the Planetarium itself and 2 for the light pointer. It is very easy to put the Planetarium together, and it is super lightweight too. The dome is made from thin plastic so needs to be handled with care. It slots into the light bulb easily. Now switch on to the rotate setting and watch the images rotate around your room. It makes a slight noise when it rotates but it is not loud enough to distract you. There is also an option to let you choose to listen to a fascinating commentary about the main planets in our solar system. The commentary is slightly loud for my liking, hence I won’t recommend sitting too close to the planetarium.

Kids can discover the wonders of chemistry with this well-equipped laboratory set with an excellent selection of 10 different chemicals. It includes a real methylated spirit burner to help when learning about the fascinating chemical reactions involving heat. Children will love performing 80+ safety-tested, themed experiments, all clearly planned and set out within the detailed instruction manual. There are of course some items that do not come with the set, however they are easy to get a hold of by visiting a local chemist and a supermarket. You may find though you have many of the items already at home in your cupboards. The sound is of a man who speaks calmly about the sun, earth and planets. There isn’t any mention of the constellations which is a shame, however it is a soothing voice none the less and perfect as a bedtime wind down. Win a Science Mad Crystal Growing Set Children can learn and discover about growing and cultivating their own crystals. The kit contains all children need to grow different colours and types of crystal with 17 different experiments. These are great quality Science kits for older kids of age 10+ who would like to go deeper into scientific experiments and offer a brilliant opportunity for kids to be able to do just that. After E had finished clearing everything away, we sat down together to talk about her experience. E told me she really enjoyed the experiment and although it was disappointing that the smaller shaped crystals had not worked this time, she wanted to try again. I explained to her that sometimes experiments don’t work as you had hoped but this is part of the process. You simply try again and make adjustments, for example maybe she needed to remove them sooner from the container or maybe they needed topping up with solution after a day or two. It could simply be that where they were left to evaporate was too warm or cold. But that’s the joy of science, it’s trail and error. E is now trying to decide which crystal growing experiment to do next. She wants to leave it until half term to do so she will be able to keep a closer eye on things. I’m pleased she is keen to try again and I am looking forward to seeing what experiment she trys next. Most of the experiments require kids to create saturated solutions of the chemical compounds to grow crystals using slightly different methods. This is a great rainy day activity to do with my children. Ms C is yet to learn about acids and alkalis at school so this is a great opportunity to show her! Although most of the items you need are included in the kit for the experiments, there are a few that require additional supplies such as a pencil, jam jar, paper clip etc. And additional chemicals such as plaster of paris and epsom salts are needed for some of the experiments. Although there are plenty of experiments to do without these additional chemical components! Doing The Experiments
