About this deal

COMMENT: An excellent example of the worst in British B- picture=making. With the exception of the engaging Susan Stephen, the players are both unattractive and uninteresting.

After Amundsen, the St Roch, a Royal Canadian Mounted Police schooner, achieved the first west-east transit in 1940-42; the first yacht was Williwaw, a 45ft steel vessel skippered by Dutch explorer Willy de Roos, in 1970; the first passenger cruise ship was successful in August 2016. However, according to Oliver, ‘By 2013, only about 100 boats had succeeded.’Dangerous Crossing blends two hoary plot lines: the one where somebody suddenly disappears and whose very existence comes into question; and the one where a young woman marries a stranger about whom, to later chagrin, she knows absolutely nothing.

What happens when you are iced up in the middle of nowhere and the voice in your head sounds like the speaking tube of HMS Erebus?’ I ask. ‘Have you worked out who you’ll eat first?’ Ofosu's group encounters another stowaway, who had boarded the ship in Cameroon. The men jovially discuss the vocations they intend to pursue in the United States. Later, their water container breaks, forcing them to leave the cargo area to forage for water. They leave evidence of their presence, which the crew discovers. To prevent Vlachos from learning that the stowaway search had failed, the captain has Plesin assemble a small team to conduct a secret search. Newlyweds Jeanne Crain and Carl Betz board an ocean liner for a honeymoon cruise to Europe. He then promptly vanishes. Crain, reacting with swooning spells and hysterical outbursts, comes under the doting care of ship's doctor Michael Rennie, who's forever "prescribing" her things like shuffleboard or Champagne. (His cheekbones, meanwhile, threaten to pop right through his skin.)Personal discipline is essential,’ he adds. ‘If everyone gets on, has fun, we handle the boat well, and we get through, then we win. If we make it to Alaska having fallen out with each other, then we fail. Tired, hungry, frightened, cold or wet, we must be polite, friendly and kind to each other.’ Will never thinks about his character,’ says Sara. ‘But when people go to the Arctic, it becomes an obsession. And you have that obsession.’ These included Americana such as "Another Language" (1933); musicals such as "Going Hollywood" (1933) and "Rose Marie (1936); comedy such as "Riptide" (1934)and classic dramas "Dinner at Eight" (1933) and "David Copperfield" (1935) for which he was nominated for an Oscar in the short lived category of Best Assistant Director. To steer a small wooden boat through the fragmented and kaleidoscopic 6,000-mile labyrinth of ice, islands and straits of the Canadian Arctic presents immense challenges. If ice conditions are heavy there is a risk of getting trapped. The chances are 50/50. The Canadian government supports Inuit settlements partly to reinforce claims of sovereignty. ‘Living alongside the Inuit are “qablunas” [Inuit for white men],’ says Oliver. ‘Most qablunas are either in government service or running away from something. The typical answer to the question, “How did you end up here?” is, “I got divorced three times and the money is good.”’
