The only thing that the players could do was to start lengthy legal proceedings which were to go on for some three years. Eventually a settlement was made out of court and the players were reinstated but on the grounds that the WDC changed its name. Even now most of the original top 32 players wont play in the Embassy, which is still running some 25 years later, but play in their own competitions which are televised on Sky sport.

In 1954 the National Darts Association was formed to oversee the game and establish more widely recognised rules of play. In 1957 the foundations for county darts were laid . Before the tournament was established, darts competitions were held in various forms around England – often as friendly matches between pubs. After World War I, pub breweries began arranging darts leagues which began to sow the seeds for the establishment of a national darts competition. The tournament was noted for using an 8ft oche rather than the regulation 7ft 9 ¼ inches. One of these competitions was held in Hythe Street, Dartford, Kent in 1927. The competition was sponsored by a local Brewery, C.N Kidd & Sons Ltd. On June 19, 1987 at the Fishing Boat Inn in Northumberland, shooter Tab Hunter (no, not the movie star!) recorded a brilliant 23 dart 1001 leg: 100-180-140-125-140-100-140-76. He averaged a fine 43.5 points per dart, ending the final 76 in two. The tournament was arranged on a regional basis from 1927 until 1939. The National Championship began in 1947–48 winners and runners-up included: And Alex Ferguson, the St Mirren club manager who also runs a Public House, was there to pass on cash collected in his pub. Money also came from the employees of raincoat manufacturer P. Zolkwer and son in the Queenslie Industrial Estate.

Harry is a "shark" at the game. His 1971 list of titles included the Evening Times Scottish singles championship, the Glasgow singles and doubles, and the singles and doubles of his home "stable" the Sou' Wester. The News of the World Championship made a one-year reappearance in the 1996/97 season, when Sky Sports and the News of the World resurrected the competition. A continental board has been developed recently which has a mesh surface and the scores are registered automatically. But this has not found favour with the English players. Each set includes three premium darts, meticulously constructed for exceptional durability and precision. These darts strike the perfect balance between accuracy and comfort, allowing you to throw with confidence and finesse.
